Obama who was in Trinidad for the recently concluded Fifth Summit of the Americas was at the Hilton Trinidad for a US post-summit press conference.

Upon meeting West Indies batting legend, Brian Lara, who is the world record holder for highest cricket Test score (400 not out), Obama commented that he had always wanted to meet the “Michael Jordan of cricket”.

Obama, an  avid basketball fan was keen to know more about the game of cricket, which he knew was similar to the American game of baseball. Lara obliged him by giving a demonstration on taking the proper batting stance and how to execute the cover drive.

Lara’s daughter Sydney also was also present with him on this historic occasion. Lara gifted the US President with an autographed cricket bat which read:

“To the President of the United States, Barack Obama, in appreciation of your visit to T&T – Best wishes.”
